About the B.M.C. of S.A.

The Mission :

To further the Great Commission as was commanded by the founder of Christianity, Jesus Christ. - (Matthew 28:19-20)

To reach as many unsaved people as possible and convert them to Jesus Christ.

To ensure that we as Christians live a Christ like life.

To encourage the true ambassadorship of Christ on earth.

To ensure that everybody praises God in his / her language.

The Name :

The name of our Church is the Bantu Methodist Church of Southern Africa nicknamed the Donkey Church.  The name Bantu is plural for umuntu.  Umuntu - a person, abantu - people.  The name has nothing to do with any racial discrimination as was the case in the apartheid South Africa.  We are the People’s Methodist of Southern Africa if we dare translate.  Why translate if the African continent is talking of the African renaissance.  We don’t have to feel inferior when using the African names / words for our institutions.

Why the nickname “Donkey”:

>   Jesus Christ used the Donkey when he dramatically entered Jerusalem before he was crucified.

>   The founders wanted to show how obedient they have been to the Church before the problems erupted.

>   The founders wanted something unique to put a banner on with the following writing: “Jesus was sold for

30 pieces of silver and we were expelled from the Church for 30 shillings.”

The Church was therefore nicknamed Donkey.  There are other stories relating to the nickname. We Love it!!!

Our Beliefs :

The Apostles’ Creed :

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; the third day he arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, and sat at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of Sins, Resurrection of the Body and the Life everlasting. Amen.
